Health Recommendations – Feminist Standards for Governance
Our recommendations for Health are:
Develop a standard flow of care from primary care visits and diagnosis with accompaniment of a patient care coordinator to refer to specialists or groups/programs for education and care provision.
Increase access to contraceptives, promoting bodily autonomy and fund sexual and reproductive health services and education
Launch a campaign on public health resources including the services availability in the public hospital emergency room and services at clinics, inclusive of locations and days for specific services
Reform laws and create policies to decriminalize and ensure access to abortion, with support from the medical community and advocacy by nongovernmental organizations to build buy-in and medical expertise validates
Feminist Standards for Governance: A People’s Agenda for 2026-2031 is a set of demands for the Government of The Bahamas to serve the people. In a series of workshops from 2021 to 2026, members of the public identified issues of national concern, connected them with systems, named responsible parties, and developed recommendations that address the issues along with their systemic roots. This people’s agenda is evidence of our collective interest in co-creating the future through active participation in governance.
