Campaigns

Equality Bahamas is engaged in advocacy for gender equality at the national, regional, and international levels. This work includes direct engagement with the Government of The Bahamas and participation in international mechanisms including, but not limited to the United Nations treaty bodies and special procedures. We refer to international human rights, submit stakeholder reports, monitor review processes, and use recommendations to guide, deepen, and support our work in-country.

We are deeply committed to co-creating feminist futures which includes ending gender-based violence. We recognize gender inequality in law and policies as structural violence. Advocacy for legal reform and feminist policymaking is a significant part of our work.

Get Involved…

In 2018, we launched the #Strike5ive campaign to criminalize marital rape in explicit terms and within exception. We are refreshing that campaign this year.

In 2014, we developed and ran an educational campaign on gender equality in nationality laws. We have advocated for constitutional reform since the referendum was announced in 2014. This year, we are launching the equal nationality rights campaigns.

Later in 2024, we will launch a new campaign related to sexual and reproductive health and rights. We invite you to explore the campaigns, and to review and share the campaign material. If you are interested in learning more about a campaign or supporting a campaign, get in touch with us at hello@equalitybahamas.com.
